2nd Post: Population Density in Bangkok

I want to continue the series of my post about the population of people in Bangkok, Thailand. Last time, I looked at the total number of people within different Khwangs (which is a finer division than districts). It was also the last post that we mentioned a possible misunderstanding from the previous plot because of the different in areas for each region which are vastly different. Therefore, we should look into the population density instead of the total number of population for each Khwang. I used the 'shape_area' that is calculated within the data file for the information about the area, but there is no obvious information about the unit of the area, so the number of population density, presented here, will not give a much insight into the actual number. However, the relationship between different region for the population density is still valid and required further discussion to make sense out of it.

From this map, we can see that the most dense area in Bangkok is not in the most populated area in the previous map, but rather in the Inner Region of Bangkok. The shape of this population density is roughly similar to the three region boundaries that is defined from previous post where 'green' relates to the Inner City region, 'yellow' and 'orange' relates to Urban Fringe region and 'red' roughly corresponds to the Surburb region. Therefore, this map confirmed our understanding of the three regions which is based on population density and how people used their land.

If we want to help improve the traffic condition of Bangkok, it might be time to start thinking to move some commercial/business buildings to different parts of Bangkok rather than the Inner City and Urban Fringe since these areas are already dense enough and difficult to travel around especially during rush hour. If we can move some commercial buildings to the outskirt of Bangkok such as in the Suburb region, the population density will further distribute to other parts of Bangkok making the city more balance and not simply packed in only one region.

Finally, there are many things we can learn from this type of map and data visualization. Feel free to contact me if you have some geography information that you want to visual on the map or make them accessible on websites, especially data about Bangkok, I might be able to help. If we make more data available to people, we will never know how the data will be utilized in different domain and what impact it will bring to other people.
